The History of City Club

City Club "Distinctive Shoes for Men" was launched in 1933 as the flagship men's fashion footwear brand of the International Shoe Company of St. Louis, Missouri. The International Shoe Company (later abbreviated to INTERCO) had the distinction of being the largest footwear manufacturer in the world for more than fifty years, and at one point owned not only City Club, but many other famous brands including both Converse and Florsheim. City Club was nationally distributed in more than 3,000 locations at the height of its popularity in the 1940s through the 1980s. Very innovative for it's day, City Club cleverly had a young Marilyn Monroe as its first spokesperson in 1951, giving the brand a racy edge over its more staid competition. The brand was heavily advertised coast to coast in newspapers and the popular magazines of the day such as Esquire, GQ, Life, Look, as well as Playboy. Sadly, after a 60 year run this storied brand would disappear in 1994 after Interco ceased operations. In 2017, industry leading footwear house Pinnacle Brand Group acquired the rights to this historically significant brand and is preparing to reintroduce City Club to the market for Fall/Winter 2022, nearly 90 years after it first hit shelves.
